Local author John Zappia will discuss his book The Greatest Gift from Sicily. The book presents the story of John's grandmother and her emigration from Italy to Pittsburgh in the early 1900s. 

A personal and historical account of the pains, joy and adventure experienced by this mother from the time she left Sicily in 1905 until her death in America in 1950, the book includes memories of influential people, famous places, family traditions and authentic southern Italian foods and recipes from Pittsburgh's Little Italy. 

This program is presented in collaboration with the Cranberry Genealogy Club. 

Author John C.Zappia was born 1938 in Pittsburgh (East Liberty), Pennsylvania. He grew up in Shaler Township and worked for PNC Bank for 38 years before retiring in 1998 as Vice President of Operations Services. He currently resides in Evans City, PA with his wife Nancy. He has also written two books about his experiences in Italy and China.
