Encouraging people to document the life experiences that may get lost over time is important. Our speaker will focus upon the potential for storytelling using examples from her experience and the experiences of her students who spent time developing their family histories. The "how to" part of the discussion will look at the elements of good storytelling, and the methods one can use to preserve the stories.
Our presenter: Mary Jane Kuffner Hirt, Professor Emerita, Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), taught graduate and undergraduate political science and public administration courses for twenty-eight years. As a family historian, her research and writing has focused primarily on her colonial-era Scots-Irish ancestors' migration to America and investigating the 1917 Mount Washington tunnel accident in Pittsburgh. Several years ago, Mary Jane shared background from her book "The Mount Washington Transit Tunnel Disaster". Her book is available in the Cranberry Library.
