Join puppeteer Dave McCabe as he helps you discover the fun of building & performing with your very own shoebox puppet character in this 2-part workshop!
Part 1 of this 3-hour workshop will teach you how to build a shoebox puppet using basic supplies of scissors, adhesives, measuring tapes, decorative paper, googly eyes, shoeboxes & more to create your own unique character! You are welcome to bring some of your own supplies if you have a favorite/fun wrapping paper or embellishments to achieve your vision for your character.
Once your puppet is built, you will immerse yourself in Part 2 - bringing your box puppet to life! Dave will teach you tips on playing and performing with your puppet. Do they sing? Do they tell jokes? Maybe they are your new tag-a-long buddy... He will help you get to know your new creation.
This workshop is intended for participants 12 years old and older.
About the Artist
Dave McCabe is a Pittsburgh based puppeteer, improviser, entertainer, and producer. Having puppets since childhood, he brings his character-centric puppeteering to life through the “Hey Clyde”, “Puppets Read Poems” and “Chicken” series of videos. Dave is the founder of “Give ‘em a Hand, the Mostly Puppet, Puppet Troupe”. His troupe performs monthly in “Improv at it’s Bests” monthly Comedy Extravaganza. His puppets perform prepared bits as well as sitting in as special guests for the live improv teams. Dave is a veteran of the “International Puppet Residency” further promoting the art of puppetry, and puppet community. His talents are currently a part of a local elementary school’s morning announcements and student events. You may see Dave and his puppets randomly popping up at conventions, grocery stores, as they bring the fun to everyday world. Yup, they really do that.
