We're pleased to welcome Charlene Foggie-Barnett, archivist from Carnegie Museum of Art, to present on the life and work of Charles "Teenie" Harris.
Harris (1908–1998) was the preeminent photographer for The Pittsburgh Courier, one of the nation’s most prominent Black newspapers photographing Pittsburgh’s historic African American community from 1935 to 1975. His archive of over 70,000 images, which is housed at Carnegie Museum of Art, is one of the most detailed and intimate historical records of Black life in America. You can click here to learn more and browse the archive.
Hear about Harris's life and get a firsthand look at his body of work -- an unparalleled chronicle of African American history and culture during the mid-twentieth century.
