Program Description

Event Details

Ready to move beyond basic joints and simple lights? This second-level workshop is designed for makers who want to bridge the gap between "following instructions" and understanding how a circuit functions.

Unlike our introductory course, this session is self-guided and project-driven. You’ll select a kit from our current inventory—ranging from audio gadgets to LED clocks and toys that move —and take the lead on the assembly process.

This class will cover:

  • Schematic Literacy: Learn to map abstract symbols on a page to physical components on your PCB.
  • Component Identification: Deepen your knowledge of resistors, capacitors, transistors, and ICs, including how to identify polarity and values with little hand-holding.
  • Troubleshooting: Practice "clean" assembly techniques and learn how to spot (and fix) errors using a circuit diagram as your map.

Prerequisites
To ensure everyone has a smooth experience, students must meet one of the following criteria:
Completion of our Intro to Soldering class or
Significant prior soldering experience and a basic familiarity with reading schematics

Note: Since you’ll be choosing your own kit from our stock, please arrive 10 minutes early to browse the selection and find a project that matches your interest and skill level.
